Corridor Manager

DESCRIPTION: 
This is an exciting job for someone who has AT corridor boundary monitoring and maintenance experience. Supervise boundary monitors, coordinate semi-annual reporting, work with the monitors to maintain neighbor and government contacts, work with the local management committee to stop illegal boundary activities, environmental impacts and assess the impact of neighboring developments.
NECESSARY SKILLS and QUALIFICATIONS: 
  • Member of the NYNJTC
  • Physically able to bushwack through woods
  • Leadership experience
  • Tactful, good interpersonal skills, able to speak effectively
  • Interest in working with people and in hiking trail management
  • Map reading, compass and altimeter skills
RESPONSIBILITIES and DUTIES: 
  • Supervise monitors
  • Send out and receive semi-annual reports from monitors      
  • Submit an annual summary to NYNJTC
  • Solve problems beyond scope of monitor
  • Develop and maintain local governmental contacts for information
  • Be alert to local issues and development plans in area
  • Recommend actions to stop illegal uses in consultation with the local management committee
  • Remove monitors if their work does not meet ATC standards.
  • Replace monitors when there are vacancies
  • Maintain records on volunteers for insurance purposes
  • Attend local management committee meetings
  • Follow up on problems discussed at meetings
  • Help review and rewrite the Local Management Plan With the committee
Training: 
  • Read the Handbook for Corridor Monitoring and Management of the Appalachian Trail
  • Informal training from other Corridor Managers by NYNJTC and ATC staff

80 hours per year, Spring through Fall
