Trail Inventory Monitor

DESCRIPTION: 

Inventory sections of approximately 100 miles of trail in four northern NJ state parks.

NECESSARY SKILLS and QUALIFICATIONS: 
  • Must have reliable transportation to job site at a specific park and be able to walk along trails.
  • Familiarity with handheld GPS devices and ability to identify and assess trail conditions is preferred but not necessary.
RESPONSIBILITIES and DUTIES: 
  • Walk all marked trails within one of 4 state parks in northwestern New Jersey (or more than one park if willing).
  • Collect information about trail conditions using a GPS-enabled handheld field computer (field computer provided by Trail Conference).
  • Photograph trail conditions and features (camera provided by Trail Conference).
Training: 
  • Volunteer will be trained on proper use of a GPS-enabled field computer to collect data.
  • Volunteer will also be training in identifying and assessing trail deficiencies/assets.
