Publications Committee Our Publications Committee is responsible for producing and marketing all Trail Conference map sets and guidebooks. We welcome volunteers who are interesting in contributing to our efforts, thereby ensuring that the public will be provided with the most accurate, up-to-date and useful information! Volunteers with the following talents and interests are particularly welcome:If you are interested in volunteering with the Trail Conference, contact the volunteer coordinator either by email, volunteers@nynjtc.org, or phone, 201-512-9348, ext. 26 Current Volunteer Opportunities Graphics Designer: We offer a number of free trail brochures to the public but many need to be updated and redesigned. Our Publications Committee is seeking a volunteer with a graphic design background who is familiar with design software such as Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, Pagemaker or Quark. Don't wait! Apply your design skills and creativity by volunteering with our Publications Committee! Google Earth Cartographer - Create Google Earth maps for various hikes and trails, including the ‘Hike of the Week’ series, for use on the Trail Conference’s website. Annotate Google Earth trail maps based on written descriptions. Produce ‘flying tours’ within Google Earth to create virtual hikes. Cartography - We need volunteers with experience using Adobe Illustrator to assist in the production of our new digital maps, as well as sketch maps for our guidebooks. Knowledge of ArcMap also useful. GPSing - Do you own a GPS unit? Become a volunteer that hikes a designated trail with a GPS receiver, recording important waypoints and taking careful notes. The information gathered is then sent to the Trail Conference office, where it is stored and used to produce our maps. Editing - Our publications are edited by volunteers. Field-Checking - We need volunteers to field-check our maps and guidebooks. This involves following the description or the route shown on the map and making sure that it is complete and accurate. Photographs - If you have good-quality photographs taken from our trails, we might be able to use them in our guidebooks. Graphic Design - Volunteers are needed for graphic design and layout of our books and maps. Project Managers - Project managers oversee the production of maps and guidebooks, coordinating the work of other volunteers and contractors and ensuring that the publication comes out on time and within the approved budget. Marketing - We need people with expertise in marketing to assist us in the marketing of our publications. We are also looking for volunteers to visit stores and make sure that they stock our current Trail Conference publications. Proofreader - We need a good pair of eyes to read through our publications before print.
