Trail U 627: Intro to Trail Maintenance

Workshop Number:
627
This one-day training session covers an introduction to the New York-New Jersey Trail Conference and provides the skills necessary to maintain a hiking trail so it is easily passable and harmonious with its surroundings. Through both classroom and field study, students will learn assessment of trail conditions, clearing, blazing proper use of tools and how to report any trail problems they may come across on their segment of trail. Students will spend the morning in a classroom environment and then head out into woods for hands-on instruction. Be prepared to spend the afternoon on the trail as part of the field training.  Students will return to the classroom to wrap up the workshop, enjoy refreshments and evaluate their experience. Wear your hiking boots; pack plenty of water; bring work gloves; and bring a bag lunch.   No previous experience is necessary and all are welcome to attend to learn about the Trail Conference and how we maintain trails in the Catskill Park.  Please register to attend.
