Trail U 674: Intro to Trail Maintenance

Workshop Number:
674

Trail MaintenanceThis outdoor training session covers an introduction to the New York-New Jersey Trail Conference and provides the skills necessary to maintain a hiking trail so it is easily passable and harmonious with its surroundings.

Through field study, students will learn assessment of trail conditions, clearing, blazing, proper use of tools and how to report any trail problems they may come across on their segment of trail. Students will spend the day hiking the Touch-Me-Not Trail between Big Pond and Little Pond.  Be prepared to spend your time on the trail and expect to walk at least three miles on a trail of moderate difficulty.

Students will return to Big Pond to wrap up the workshop, enjoy refreshments and evaluate their experience. Wear your hiking boots; pack plenty of water; bring work gloves; and bring a bag lunch.

No previous experience is necessary and all are welcome to attend to learn about the Trail Conference and how we maintain trails in the Catskill Park.
