Tuition/Commitment Requirement

The mission of the Trail University component of the Bear Mountain Trails Project is to provide training for new and currently active volunteers to enable them to rebuild the trails on Bear Mountain and throughout the region.

Prior to signing up for many of the workshops scheduled, you are encouraged to attend a project orientation day, general workday, or volunteer for the project. To attend more than one outing, Trail Conference Membership will be required.

Trail University workshops provide intensive skills training and are led by professional instructors.  These workshops are meant for individuals who intend to contribute to the restoration and maintenance of trails in the region.  For these reasons, the following tuition or commitment terms apply:

• NY-NJ Trail Conference members:  Introductory workshops are free. However, you will be required to participate in 3 work trips (either at Bear Mountain or with another Trail Conference or Appalachian Trail Conservancy organized trail crew) prior to registering for an Intermediate or Advanced level workshop.

• Non-members: Introductory workshops are free. However, Trail Conference membership and participation in 3 work trips (either at Bear Mountain or with another Trail Conference or Appalachian Trail Conservancy organized trail crew) prior to registering for an Intermediate or Advanced level workshop.

• General Work Days and Work Trips are free for all participants

Scholarships are available based on a written statement of need to the Trail Conference.
