At some point, you need to ask someone if they wish to help.
  • Establish or reestablish rapport
  • Mention previous conversation if had one or the means of the referral
  • Tell what you are doing - looking for someone to do _________
    • Relate to the job to the organization's needs
    • Talk about specific job based on interests of the listener
      • Know what is involved for the job
      • Know what the general time commitments are
  • Get them talking
    • Listen for clues on their concerns
    • Encourage questions
  • Give them time to make decision and that you will call back within that time period
