- Establish or reestablish rapport
- Mention previous conversation if had one or the means of the
referral
- Tell what you are doing - looking for someone to do _________
- Relate to the job to the organization's needs
- Talk about specific job based on interests of the listener
- Know what is involved for the job
- Know what the general time commitments are
- Get them talking
- Listen for clues on their concerns
- Encourage questions
- Give them time to make decision and that you will call back within
that time period
