Summer Solstice Benefit Hike: Appalachian Trail at Bear Mountain Grand Opening

Registration is closed for this event
Join us for a summer solstice hike and champagne toast to celebrate the grand opening of the Appalachian Trail at Bear Mountain and support the people who make great trails happen.

The completion of the Bear Mountain Trails Project was a monumental event for the Trail Conference and all our project partners. In honor of this achievement, we want to gather the trail community to celebrate the most ambitious rehabilitation ever to take place on the Appalachian Trail.

Join us for a summer solstice hike and champagne toast to celebrate the grand opening of the Appalachian Trail at Bear Mountain State Park on Friday, June 21. We’ll walk a portion of the new Trail, which was rebuilt with more than 1,300 granite steps from the bottom of Bear Mountain to its summit—work completed over 14 years by more than 3,000 volunteers. This remarkable accomplishment was just recognized nationally as a 2019 Project of the Year by The Corps Network.

Along the hike, Trail Conference Conservation Corps members, volunteers, and staff who worked on the project will share stories about what it took to transform the A.T. at Bear from an eroded, washed-out, 10-foot-wide scar into a safe, sustainable footpath featuring the first ADA-compliant section of the Appalachian Trail and Trails for People, the first outdoor interpretive exhibit aimed at teaching park visitors how trails are made.

After the hike, enjoy light refreshments and mingle with fellow trail lovers. The evening will conclude with a champagne toast in honor of everyone who had a hand in this tremendous achievement.

Tickets are limited; proceeds from the event go to supporting the Trail Conference mission.

We hope you'll join us in celebrating the incredible new work completed on the oldest section of the Appalachian Trail on Friday, June 21.
