Enjoy a morning meeting our Trail Stewards at Bear Mountain State Park. Trail Conference volunteers built the first section of the A.T. here in 1923 and today it receives over a million visitors every year. Our Stewards have been bringing face-to-face user education and sustainable, on-the-ground solutions to some of the region’s most popular outdoor destinations since 2013. They are key in protecting the ecological integrity of these special places being threatened by issues such as misuse and high usage.
On your hike, we’ll see firsthand how cutting edge technology is creating sustainable trails, built to last for our lifetimes and beyond.
Hike is up the A.T. to the first view point and back to the base of the Trails For People exhibit, ~1.5 miles. There is a fee for parking at Bear Mountain on the weekends. Dress for conditions, bring plenty of water and wear hiking shoes with ankle support.
