Join Trail Supervisor Lou Baldanza and Certified Chainsawyer Don Cohen on a trail maintenance/blowdown removal worktrip at the beautiful Neversink Gorge Unique Area on Saturday August 19!
Volunteers will have an excellent opportunity to do some trail work and to explore some remote and beautiful terrain in the heart of the gorge, while helping sawyer Don Cohen remove some blowdowns on the connector trail. Don is a certified sawyer who works with a chainsaw to remove blowdowns that require more than a handsaw. Sawyer assistants are known as "swampers" You don't have to have the physique or experience of Paul Bunyan to be a swamper, the job consists of helping the sawyer carry his equipment and moving the cut-up pieces off the trail. If there are enough helpers, we will also be clipping and clearing brush on the Cold Spring and Blue trail.
Please be sure to bring plenty of water, snacks, insect repellant, map, flashlight/headlamp, and basic first aid kit. Folding saw or clippers will also be helpful to bring, but not mandatory.
No experience necessary!
