Introduction to Trail Maintenance

Join us as we work with the National Park Service and the Ramirez Solar House Non-Profit to help restore the grounds of the historic Ramirez Solar House, one of the Delaware Water Gap’s most intriguing historical properties (www.ramirezsolarhouse.org). This Introduction to Trail Maintenance course will cover everything you need to know about opening up and maintaining a trail including an overview of tools, clipping and cutting technique, identifying hazards, and more.   Throughout the day our work will help to cut back foliage and reveal the dramatic architectural features that define the Solar House property, as well as create trail access to these features. Come prepared to work hard – bring long pants, sturdy boots, lunch, snacks, and plenty of water. At the end of the day the Ramirez Solar House nonprofit will provide refreshments and host a tour of the house. If you would like to camp overnight after the work day, a campsite may be available down the road for free use by trail volunteers (pending interest and availability). Please email [email protected] if you would be interested in using an overnight campsite – only those who register in advance will be potentially eligible to use the site.
