Bear Mountain Introduction to Trail Strucres

This course is open and free to all those interested in learning about and building trail structures for wet areas!   Learn when and how to construct different trail structures.This course covers 7 types of constructed trail features, their purpose and use, and their effect on the trail experience. Emphasis will be placed on how each structure must fit into its location and how trail structures' architecture can affect hikers' experience. Carpentry as well as basic rock moving using picks and bars will be incorporated into the course.   This course is suited for all levels, from beginner to experienced crew members.  Participants will work in teams to construct Trails for People Exhibit Activity Stations : turnpike, puncheon, bog bridge, corduroy, stepping stones, open culvert, and bridge.   For more information on the Bear Mountain Trails Project and the Megalithic Trail Crew check out www.nynjtc.org/bearmtntrails
