Bear Mountain Stone Crib Wall Construction

This is a 2 day course!  It is open and free to all those interested in learning and building stone crib wall!   Learn when and how to construct stone crib walls (a centerpiece of the Bear Mountain Trails Project) to support a tread way or retain a hillside. In this workshop, attention will be paid to key design requirements such as achieving solid points of contact, batter, and eliminating running joints. Basic rock moving using picks and bars, and stone shaping with the use of hammers and chisels, will be incorporated into the course.   This course is suited for all levels, from beginner to experienced crew members.  Each participant will recieve their own 10 foot section of wall, from straight and straight forward to sections of wall with features such as convex and concave curves, multi tier tall wall, and possibly a step stile.   This course is taught by Kevin Stamey, Trail Conference AmeriCorps Member and Dry Stone Walling Association of Great Britan Certified Level 1 Waller.     For more information on the Bear Mountain Trails Project and the Megalithic Trail Crew check out www.nynjtc.org/bearmtntrails
