Introduction to Trail Maintenance

Introduction to Trail Maintenance Have a trail you love or a park that is special to you? Consider becoming a trail maintainer to pay back the pleasure you get from hiking. Find out if this volunteer position is what you would like to do at Introduction to Trail Maintenance, a class offered by volunteers of the New York-Jersey Trail Conference.   This three hour class provides the skills necessary to maintain a hiking trail so it is easily passable and harmonious with its surroundings. Participants will learn assessment of trail conditions, clearing, blazing, proper use of tools and how to report any trail problems they may come across on their segment of trail. Be prepared for changeable weather.    Wear your hiking boots and work gloves - bring water and a bag lunch. If you have garden clippers, loppers or pruning saws, please bring them.   Location directions will be given upon registration. Please contact Hank Osborn if you have any questions before registration. [email protected] or 201-512-9348    No previous experience is necessary and all are welcome to attend to learn about the Trail Conference and how we maintain trails.
