AT - Relocation at Bear Mtn. SW (4)

THIS IS A THREE DAY OUTING.  Each day, the crew will be on the trail from 9:00 AM to 3:30 PM.  Relocate a section of the AT with us, on the  south side of Bear Mountain!  The new route will bypass the eroded older section, and create a path through some exciting tock squeezes and great new views. To accomplish this, we will move stone, build and shape rock steps and retaining walls. We will provide tools such as rock bars, pick-mattocks and steel cable rigging with a high line, to 'fly' rocks through the air.   Training will be provided hands-on.  Stay for a morning or entire day.The site is easily accesible, within 0.1 miles from the road and within 0.2 miles of the parking areas. MANDATORY: Bring water, protective (leather) gloves, and lunch.  Complete and mail a *completed Volunteer Service Agreement.* prior to the work day. RECOMMENDED: Safety glasses are recommended, but not required. RSVP to Crew Chief Chris Reyling at [email protected], 914-428-9878 home, or 914-953-4900 cell. Bad weather may cancel.  - Appalachian Trail - Hikers parking off Seven Lakes Drive, c. 0.1 mile West of Perkins Drive, on the 1777W Trail.
