My son goes to college in Eastern Pennsylvania (Lehigh Valley region) and was asking me if there is an organization he can contact that provides hiking trail info similar to what the NYNJTC provides for us in our tri-state area.  Does anyone know of an organization he can contact?  He's trying to start a hiking club on campus but wants to get info on what hiking trails/maps are available for the club to use.   Any info would be greatly appreciated!

Just what I was looking for --- Thanks!

I just found a company on the web: landprint.com that will create 3D Terrain models for you.  Wouldn't you love to have a 3D model of your favorite Trail Conference Map with the hiking trails marked on it?  Anyone in the conference's administration interested in looking into marketing something like that?  What about bringing something like that to a public talk/event the conference promotes to recruit new members?  Wouldn't that look spectacular?  What do you all think?

The 3D Terrain Models do look pretty nice, and it certainly would be great to have a TC map combined with the 3D relief model.  Thanks for the suggestion, as I may look into these models a bit further.   ~JeremyTC Cartographer

I especially thought you'd appreciate them Jeremy! :-)

There is alot of Mile-a-Minute vine on Landing Road East of the Knickerbocker Firehouse in Valley Cottage.  That can be accessed by Lake Rockland State Park.  Mile-a-Minute vine is highly invasive.  Should this be reported to someone at the State of New York?

I sent you an email yesterday with the links for the Long Path. I'm heavily involved in the management, maintenance and construction of several relocations on the Long Path. Also I have backpacked the entire Long Path. The email I sent you has my contact information. Andy Garrison

Never heard of the "NY Trail". Are you sure it doesn't go by another name?   And yes, you can take a bus from Port Authority to Bear Mountain- the earliest one leaves at 8:45 and gets you to Bear Mtn around 10 if my memory is correct. It's not Greyhound though, it's Shortline.

I'm thinking of blazing trails through my house.  Maybe putting a kiosk at the front door, a loop around the kitchen, hikes a little more challenging that go upstairs and into the attic.  Those wooden signs that you see posted along Adirondack and Catskill trails with routed letters are really nice.  Anyone else ever done this?

Hi Suzy - Are you a trail maintainer or do you do any work with a trail crew? If not it sounds like you might enjoy it. Andy Garrison

No I'm not but I think I will.  I really love those trails.

If I were the king of Tuxedo NY it would be the hiking capital of New York.  There'd be an outfitter right near the train station where the R-D comes in.  It would be what Rosco, NY is to fly-fishing.  The people who make these maps would be gods.  I think Harriman State Park is just amazingly beautiful and the NYNJTC mapmakers are the best at it -- that's all.

You don't really want it to be the hiking capital- it would be way too crowded :) But i agree with your sentiment that it is a great part of the park!

I think you have a bad case of Harriman hiking fever!
