The Long Island Greenbelt Trail stretches almost 32 miles from Heckscher State Park on Great South Bay to Sunken Meadow State Park on Long Island Sound. The trail, marked with a white blaze, passes through several local and state parks along its route, including 3,473-acre Connetquot River State Park Preserve.

The Long Island Greenbelt Trail was officially established in 1978 through the cooperative efforts of state, county and town agencies. In 1982, the U.S. Department of the Interior granted National Recreational Trail status to the trail.

Along the trail, one finds bay beaches, pine barrens, deciduous forests, and tidal marshes. Parts of the trail follow old Native American paths and farm-to-market roads. The Greenbelt shelters populations of deer, fox, raccoon, opossum, egret, kingfisher, and many other species.

I have pictures of a group of at least 5 motor bikes on trail today. These are kids no older than 16.
