Minnewaska State Park Preserve is seeking help to cut and install about 40 water bars along some of the bulldozer fire breaks in the Sam's Point area. These firebreaks were placed on the land during recent fire suppression efforts. The water bars are needed to protect the already rapidly eroding watershed, and to prevent sensitive wetlands from silting up.
Park staff will be supervising work parties of volunteers who are experienced with constructing waterbars and have trail work experience. The Long Distance Trails crew will be going there on Thursday, May 12. The park has a number of tools and equipment to offer.
Bring lunch, water and gloves.
