You can start this hike at another trailhead to avoid fees
bromli
Since I consider myself to be a cheap person, I did this hike starting from the circle at the end of Jonestown Road. From there, you can pick up the blue disc trail and follow it into the kakiat trail. It is sort of like doing this hike in reverse. The small detour didn't add much time to the hike, maybe 15 minutes at most.

Be prepared

If you do this hike in the current snow conditions, be prepared with the proper layered clothing and footwear. Ice creepers and snowshoes might be in order.

Claudius Smith's Rock Loop August 2009
John Hopton
My wife and I did this loop from Tuxedo in the last weekend in August 2009. It was a very pleasant hike. However we are both in our fifties and a bit out of practice as far as arduous hiking goes so it took us just over 5 hours rather than 4. Some of the red and white and blue and white markers were badly weathered though. I'd happily have gone and re-painted them myself but we have returned home to England now, but if you're going that way and you're feeling public spirited you might want to take some red, blue and white paint with you
