Beautiful views, don't skip the Megaliths. Breezes kept the bugs in check. Dog (part billy goat) did well with the scrambles but was not keen on the constant gun fire from the local shooting range.

Great hike. Views are amazing
The views along this hike are amazing. The ascent is very difficult but well worth it. Once you get to the top of the ridge its smooth sailing all the way home. As another hiker pointed out, the blazes along the ridge trails can be a bit sparse. Make sure to follow the rock piles whereever you are going. If you come to a metal sign on a large rock clearing, you are at an important junction. On the right is the megaliths, just forward is the 1664 peak.

Wish I had more time up top!
This is an excellent all around hike. The directions are accurate and the markers are clearly visible throughout the hike. The Puddingstone Conglomerates were a real treat and it was great to see so many Pitch Pines in one place! The view from the Megalith's is absolutely fantastic. Will do this next year when the days are longer to get the most out of this mountain. Thanks again for the directions and descriptions!

Great hike
A number of expansive views + some interesting rocks makes this a good hike. Most of the climbing is done on the sweet clover trail. The Jessup trail is rather poorly marked -- you have to use a mixture of cairns and marks to navigate. I missed the turn off to the megaliths. If you reach the junction of a blue dot on white trail, you have gone too far on jessup trail. The turn off to dark hollow trail is well marked on your way back. It took me about 4 hours - including some confusion on the jessup trail, some minor breaks to take pictures and a 20 min break at the megaliths.

May 2012
I hiked this route in mid May and found the above directions very accurate. The beginning and the end of this route travels through a beautiful meadow that had wildflowers and butterflies. Some of the blazes of the Sweet Clover trail were sparse along the way. The views, the walk along the rocky ridge, the visit to the megaliths and the 270 degree panorama made this hike memorable.  The hike at the top was enhanced by excellent blazing with many creatively placed cairns. The ascent is steep and the descent is steep and rocky.

The Google Parking Map for
The Google Parking Map for Taylor Road Parking was incorrect until this posting. The correct parking lot co-ordinates are 41.407553, -74.081725‎ or +41° 24' 27.19,  -74° 4' 54.21. We are not able to confirm the viewpoint coordinates off the Dark Hollow Trail but we can confirm that this is a great hike.

nice energetic day hike
did this hike pretty much exactly as described with the wife and 2 kids (10 and 12) today. after a gentle start this hike rises 1000' in less than a mile and is a reall work-out - just what we wanted! for those who want a break 1/2 way up continue to about 1060' elevation where there are some rocks to sit on by the waterfall and cascade. spectacular views from all around at the top. my GPS read 1670' at the high point. detour off the dark hollow trail to N 41° 23.684 W 074° 06.599 for another spectacular view over to the east on the way down. we covered 6.5 miles in 5 hours with a total ascent of just under 1500'. great hike!   the coordinates for parking are: N 41° 24.461 W 074° 04.904
