Body

The 2017 MRCC/Trail Conference 5K Run & 3K Walk featured record attendance, a scenic course and fundraising for the local community.

A five-year-old boy and 90-year old woman were among the record 330 runners and walkers to cross the finish line at this year’s MRCC/Trail Conference 5K Run and 3K Walk on May 21.  Starting and ending at the Trail Conference’s historic headquarters at Darlington Schoolhouse, the scenic course featured the woodlands and waterways of Ramapo Reservation, as well as glimpses of Ramapo College of New Jersey, Sweetwater Prayer Camp, and the Hunt and Polo Club.

Hosted by the Mahwah Regional Chamber of Commerce (MRCC) and the Trail Conference, the event featured food, music, pre- and post-run massages, and a wide variety of exhibits. Near-perfect conditions led to several course records being broken this year. Many also participated in the 3K walk, which allowed non-racers to enjoy the scenery at a more leisurely pace.

The annual event helps attract new people to the Trail Conference and draw attention to our efforts to restore the popular trails of the Ramapo Reservation. Last year, MRCC donated $10,000 to the Trail Conference, and a similar donation is expected this year. The Trail Conference thanks MRCC, the dedicated event volunteers, and all the participants for making 2017 the best year yet!
