Bear incident shutters park in West Milford and postpones Thunder in the Highlands event until July 9

The search continues for an aggressive black bear in the former Jungle Habitat woodlands. According to state officials, a female black bear attacked a hiker and his dog as they walked along one of the off-road bicycle trails last Thursday around 9:30 a.m. Consequently, the state-owned park has been temporarily closed by the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection (DEP).
