BEYOND THE NATIVE/EXOTIC DEBATE

Wednesday, May 15, 2019
10:00 AM -12:00 noon

Yonkers Will Library, Yonkers, NY 10710
Speaker: Nina Bassuk
Nina Bassuk is asked if native woody plants are the “way to go" to increase species diversity and habitat for wildlife. Natives have gained press in the face of climate change but are they best for disturbed urban/suburban environments? Professor Bassuk will debunk some of the myths surrounding these plants. She has developed technologies to improve establishment of healthy plants in such environments.

Nina Bassuk holds a PhD in Horticulture from  the University of London and is the Director of the Urban horticulture Institute at Cornell University. Her teaching, research and extension efforts are directed at enhancing the function and health of plants growing in urban and disturbed areas.
