After writing my response below, I installed a newer version of the Notifications package. It moved menus around. Now when you go to your My Account you get a notifications tab. I set yours to nothing checked so they should go away. Let me know if they don't.

I don't understand the Access Denied. That shouldn't happen. Since I am on as webmaster, nothing is every denied. With the change of the code it probably referred to a wrong page.

The new code looks much improved bringing a bunch of stuff under one tent where a user should be able to manage it easily.

I agree on no mail unless opt-in. Before we start allowing lots of users we need to check all the defaults or make it clear that registering is an opt-in for at least certain email, such as a newsletter. Similarly joining a group may be taken as an opt-in for certain notifications. Some of the notifications are very fine grained, e.g. you can opt-in for posts by a certain user, or about a certain topic.

Ann: The opt-in discussion above needs to be documented in the action item list so that we eventually do it.

Walt ... There is no newsletters in the edit tab of My Account.

When I click the link provided below it brings me to a page that says "Access Denied: You are not authorized to access this page." I'm signed in.

I think it is really important to make a global command that ensures that no one get's email unless they opt in to it.

You are in the Trails Council Group and can set the notification levels there. Go to http://new.nynjtc.net/user/5/notifications/group . You are set to ALL posts in the group. You can be much more selective. I am set to none.

To navigate to this page: go to My Account; edit; Newsletters- Manage subscriptions, My Newsletters. On this page there is a checkbox for automatically enabling new group notifications that is checked. This is ok, but under it is a link to customized which gets you to the page above where you can be selective.

Walt ... I'd like to unsubscribe from these (I only get them from
Kenneth) but couldn't figure out where. Interestingly, these only come in text format.
