1 Hiker Dead, 1 Rescued on Blackhead Mountain in Catskills
Two men lost on Blackhead Mountain during a snowstorm since leaving on a
hiking trip Friday evening were found by rescuers. One man was found alive
Sunday on one of the trails but his hiking companion was found dead
Monday.
Alberto Risenberg of Virginia was located Sunday night alive and
under a blanket near the mountain’s summit, according to state Department of
Environmental Conservation Spokeswoman Maureen Wren.
Risenberg’s hiking
companion, Seth Lyon of Poughkeepsie, was found dead Monday afternoon, just a
short distance from where Risenberg was found.
