|Park Description:|| |
Located in Mahwah, between Ramapo Valley County Reservation and Ramapo Mountain State Forest, Camp Glen Gray served as a Boy Scout camp until 2002, when it was acquired by Bergen County. The more remote portions of the 750-acre camp are managed by the Bergen County Parks Department, but the "core area" of the camp - which includes cabins, lean-tos, and campsites - is operated by the Friends of Glen Gray. These rustic overnight facilities are available for rental by groups, families, or individuals.
Dogs: Not permitted for campers. However, those hiking through the camp may bring along their dogs, provided they are leashed.
|Trails Overview:|| |
A network of hiking trails open to the public traverses the Camp, with several connections from surrounding parkland. Parking at the site is restricted to overnight guests. The closest access for day hikers is the upper parking area on Skyline Drive, the southern terminus of the Schuber Trail [roughly 1.2 miles from the camp]. Access from the north is also from the Schuber Trail, starting at Ramapo Valley County Reservation [roughly 5.3 miles from the camp].
In the event a Camp Glen Gray representative happens to be in the office or up in camp, it would be a courtesy for the hikers to advise him or her that they are in camp and to identify their anticipated hike plan and length of stay.
Hike in (see above). Parking at the camp is reserved exclusively for overnight campers; parking by day hikers is strictly prohibited. Midvale Mountain Road is a private access road to the camp, and parking along the road is not permitted.
