The NYNJTC is the Official Steward of the Appalachian Trail in NY & NJ
The New York-New Jersey Trail Conference is the official caretaker of the Appalachian Trail (AT) in New York and New Jersey, responsible for maintaining nearly 160 miles of this world-famous long-distance hiking trail. While many AT supporters turn to the Appalachian Trail Conservancy (ATC), our volunteers and trail crews keep the AT in our region accessible, safe, and sustainable.

A Century of Commitment
Since 1923, the Trail Conference has played a pivotal role in the AT’s history, having built the first section of the trail at Bear Mountain. Our dedication continues today, with over 140 volunteers actively maintaining the trail from the Delaware Water Gap to Connecticut.
