The Appalachian Trail (AT) in New York and New Jersey offers diverse landscapes, breathtaking vistas, and rewarding hiking experiences. Spanning nearly 160 miles, this section of the AT takes you through historic landmarks, lush forests, rugged mountains, and serene waterways—providing an adventure for all skill levels.
Highlights of the AT in NY & NJ
The Trail Conference oversees nearly 160 miles of the AT, working in partnership with the National Park Service and the Appalachian Trail Conservancy (ATC). Our duties include:
- Bear Mountain State Park – One of the most iconic sections, featuring the first section of the AT ever built and an ADA-compliant trail segment.
- Pochuck Boardwalk – A stunning wetland crossing in New Jersey, offering a unique and accessible trail experience.
- High Point State Park – The AT’s highest elevation in New Jersey, with panoramic views from the state’s tallest peak.
- Hudson River Crossing – The AT crosses the Hudson River at Bear Mountain Bridge, a breathtaking section with historic significance.
- Wawayanda State Park – A tranquil stretch of forest and lakes, offering a peaceful retreat for hikers.
