Park Description:

Located just shy of the eastern tip of Long Island along South Fork, Hither Hills State Park offers trails and packed sand roads among pitch pines and stunted oaks, mountain laurel tunnels and hilly woods, a scenic pond, a canyon and stunning water views from beach level and bluff level.  The unique "walking dunes" of Napeague Harbor are located on the eastern boundary of the park.

Adjacent to the State Park is Hither Woods, a preserve of 1,340 acres, thus making a combined total of over 3,000 parkland acres.

Trails Overview:

An 11.3-mile segment (Part 11) of Long Island’s 125-mile Paumanok Path passes through Hither Hills State Park and Hither Woods Preserve, primarily along the bluffs facing Napeague Bay. The topographical map linked above features the path (displayed as white with “Begin Segment 11” identified) plus many other trails, roads, even a rail bed.  Also, map holders along the trails and in parking areas are sometimes stocked with maps printed in black and white.  The East Hampton Trails Preservation Society sells a trail map for this region.
