Mine Trail/Roomy Mine Loop from the New Weis Center

Norvin Green State Forest

This loop hike passes by two old iron mines, one of which extends about 60 feet into the hillside.

The hike begins at the western end of the parking area, where a gatepost with a triple light-green blaze marks the start of the Otter Hole Trail. You'll be following this trail for the first third of a mile (other trails, such as the "L" Trail and the "W" Trail, are co-aligned for part of the way). Continue along the driveway leading into the New Weis Center, lined on both sides with Norway...

Trailhead Closed for Mine Trail/Wyanokie Circular

The co-aligned Mine and Wyanokie Circular trails no longer go out to Snake Den Road, so an alternate route has been provided to get back to the parking area at Weis Ecology Center.

Roomy Mine is closed to all visitors

Due to the disease affecting bats, NJ DEP - Fish & Wildlife folks have asked that we DO NOT enter the Roomy Mine, or any caves for that matter.  This is to prevent the further spread of the white-nose syndrome fungus that is killing our bats.

This will remain closed until further notice - a sign is posted at the Mine entrance.
