 5:45 pm Networking and dinner

6:15 p.m. Meeting

Hank Osborn thanked sawyers and swampers who have labored intensely to remove fallen trees from the May 15 storm.  He also announced that Jane and Walt Daniels have received the Volunteer Service Award from the Westchester Recreation and Parks Society (WRAPS) for their continued service.

Lee Draper announced that Mary Dodds was awarded Teatown’s Volunteer of the year award for her wrangling of Trail Tramps over the past year. Jane Daniels added that George Scott of Lewisboro also received WRAPS AWARD for his service to the Town of Lewisboro parks.

Jane Daniels informed the group that she would like to move away from being Chair of EH-RTC.  Members were encouraged to consider taking over this very position.

News from Headquarters

Walt Daniels reported that there is ongoing discussion of the Trail Approval process in the Policy Approval Council regarding park approvals, trail adoption processes and trail construction processes and it will be send out for approval later in June.

Publications: Westchester maps production is moving forward in expectation of the addition of Rockefeller and Teatown.

Regional Business

The Clearwater booth sold over $500 in merchandise and added two memberships during the weekend. Also, 16 new volunteers signed up and Kendra will screen.

The April 28 Trail Maintenance 101 workshop yielded several new volunteers and John Magerlein also got two new volunteers from the Hubbard Lodge 101 training.

Mary Dodds presented a slide view of the aftermath of the May 15 storm.  Numbers such as 70 blowdowns on the AT north of Greymoor were the shocking results.  “Was the view (of the Hudson river) worth it?”  The slides showed both aerial and local views of what the sawyers and swampers contented with in trying to find and clear trails.  In one area near Sugar Loaf, Mary reported that it took the entire day for the crew to clear ½ mile of trail which is now visable from rt. 9D as a huge bare area in the forest up the mountain where there was once tree canopy there is now an open vista.

Next Meeting

Discussion of next meeting’s annual picnic including picking date, Sept. 30, and the possibility it will be at Hubbard Lodge where there are new bridges, a butterfly garden and trails.  John Magerlein offered to help arrange the date.
