The Catskills Lark in the Park is an annual celebration of the Catskill Park and the Catskill Mountains Region.

The 2019 Catskills Lark in the Park will be held Saturday, Oct. 5 through Monday, Oct. 14. Since its inception in 2004, the Lark has brought together people and organizations participating in hundreds of events aimed at celebrating and heightening awareness of the Catskill Mountains region of New York State and the Catskill Park. Activities annually include organized hikes, bicycle trips, paddles, service, and cultural and educational events. The coordination of this event is managed through a partnership between the Trail Conference, the Catskill Mountain Club, The Catskill Center, and the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation.

The Trail Conference is hosting several events during this year's Lark:

Saturday, Oct. 5
Ashokan Rail Trail Steward Training
After years of planning and construction, Ulster County is preparing to open the first segment of the Ashokan Rail Trail in mid-October. As we prepare for this partial opening, we have partnered with the county and Woodstock Land Conservancy on a volunteer Trail Steward program.

Saturday, Oct. 5
Leave No Trace Hike at Slide Mountain
Join a Trail Conference Trail Steward on a beautiful fall hike to the summit of the tallest mountain in the Catskills! During the hike, you'll learn about Leave No Trace principles and John Burroughs, an early conservationist and natural who frequently visited the area.

Thursday, Oct. 10
Trail Maintenance Hike

Join a Trail Conference Trail Steward for a day of maintaining trails! Trail Maintenance is clearing, cleaning, and blazing.  We will use small hand tools to clip and cut brush out of the trail, remove debris from drainage structures, and paint or hang the markers used for route finding also known as blazes.

Sunday, Oct. 13
Leave No Trace Hike at Giant Ledge

Join a Trail Conference Trail Steward for a moderate, 2.9 out-and-back hike to Giant Ledge, which offers spectacular views. During the hike, Trail Stewards will discuss Leave No Trace principles as well as what it means to be a trail steward.
