Mahwah, artistic visions for school’s rebirth as trail group’s hub

The Darlington Schoolhouse renovation will now include landscape design by renowned environmental sculptor George Trakas.

A work contract for the Quebec-born artist is in the mail, according to Ed Goodell, executive director of the New York-New Jersey Trail Conference, which will use the 1890s building as its headquarters when the final phase of work is completed in November.

“His job is to bring the outdoor spaces up to the same level of engagement as the indoor spaces,” Goodell said. “I think he’ll do some very unique things — fun things — that will get people’s attention.”
