Former Montclair High School student Ian Vanderklein, who graduated in June, has always enjoyed biking, hiking and the outdoors. But when he spent two weeks following the Lenape Trail this spring, he learned about areas in Essex County he never thought he'd visit.

The data that Vanderklein tracked about the blazes will be used to revitalize the Lenape Trail, a project that is getting under way this summer. The project will be headed by the New York-New Jersey Trail Conference, Liberty Water Gap Trail Coordinating Committee, and the Essex County Department of Parks, Recreation and Cultural Affairs.
