The entire Giant Stairs section of the Shore Trail near State Line Lookout in Palisades Interstate Park is closed due to a major rockfall and landslide, which occurred on the morning of January 9th, 2026.
The Giant Stairs section of the park, detailed in the map below, is considered unsafe due to the risk of additional rockfall activity.
Park staff is addressing the situation now. Please visit njpalisades.org for the latest advisories and updates about the trail.
