Conservation Corps: Trail Crews

Empowering Trail Builders and Future Leaders

Our Mission

The Trail Conference Conservation Corps Trail Crews build, renovate, and maintain trails in Northern New Jersey and New York’s Hudson Valley. Supported by grants, donors, and government contracts, we create safe, enjoyable, and sustainable trails that align with the Trail Conference’s mission.

Building Trails

From May through October, our AmeriCorps crews dedicate over 900 hours each to constructing and improving primitive recreational trails. Led by professional trail builders, they tackle projects like creating new trails, rerouting sections to avoid erosion, and constructing structures using native materials. This work reduces human impact, lowers maintenance needs, and enhances the user experience.

Cultivating Tomorrow’s Conservation Leaders

Our Trail Crews provide a stepping stone for careers in conservation and outdoor recreation. No degrees or advanced skills are required—just a passion for nature. We offer hands-on training in trail building, management, and conservation, along with essential skills like teamwork and project management. Apply today to start or advance your career with a Conservation Corps Trail Crew.

Engaging the Public

Our Trail Crews host weekend workdays where volunteers can join in, receive training, and contribute to meaningful trail projects. Volunteers are provided with personal protective equipment (PPE) and guidance from crew members. We also offer workshops—both in person and online—on trail-building skills to inspire future involvement. Check out our events calendar or visit our Online Learning Library for webinar recordings.
