Compiling Trail History – Curious about the history behind the trails we maintain?

The Trail Conference Archives does not have much of any organized record of when trails were built and by whom. And it is likely that our partners do not have any record either.  Compiling trail history means focusing on smaller pieces such as a park or a trail, ideally done by someone familiar with an area. So volunteers can pick a geographic area, park, or trail.

Tasks include:

  • Sorting and organizing existing folders and files at the Trail Conference Headquarters,
  • Photocopying relevant files as necessary to add them to existing folders
  • Research maps and books
  • Enter information on the Trail History spreadsheet in the Archives Drive
  • Write a short article (optional)
  • Notify the Trail Conference liaison when the trail history has been researched

Archival material cannot leave the Trail Conference office. Thus some of the work must be done at the office when the Trial Conference Liaison is present including weekends.
